This Is Devastating To Admit: 603 Karate Is A PAIN!

There are a million things you probably NEED to do right now:
Yard work
Clean the house
Food shopping
Get the kids to their events
Etc
And, there’s probably a million things you WANT to do right now:
Read a book
Watch a new show on Netflix
Go for a walk
Actually take a moment for yourself
Etc
And, if you are a student at 603 Karate, there’s probably no shortage of reasons to NOT show up for class today:
You’re exhausted from work or school (some do both!)
Your list of things you NEED and WANT to do is immense
A friend wants to hang out with you
You just don’t feel like it today
Etc
I get all that. Believe me.
To tell the truth, I don’t always feel like it myself. I’m certainly not immune to life’s duties and challenges. There are days I need or want to do other things as well.
But, there’s a cost to everything.
Over the years, many people have chosen the cost of being consistent at the dojo.
One student has been consistent since the very first day the dojo opened! (He won’t go away.)
One student went from a kid scared to get on the mats to running for class president.
Another student went from the most clumsy student I’ve ever seen to dominating adults three times their age in sparring and Kumite.
Others have paid the cost of being consistent at the dojo that have led to great transformations in their lives. Things such as:
Creating the confidence to earn promotions at work
Having the mental toughness to deal with intimidating medical issues
Finding a culture that gives them a place to be themself
Losing over 75 pounds (and counting!)!!!
All of these people have paid the cost of being consistent at the dojo. This cost has included:
Time away from family
Effort given when it felt like they didn’t have any to give that day
The financial cost of being at the dojo
None of these costs are little things.
However…
I’m willing to bet that none of them regret that cost.
I don’t think they would want to
Give up their confidence or promotions they have earned
Be overtaken by fear when dealing with life’s challenges
Feel lonely and isolated much of the time
Keep that 75 pounds they wish they never had in the first place
And so much more.
So, yes. There is a cost to join the dojo. There is a cost to go to classes. And, there is a cost to being consistent over time.
But, there are tremendous benefits to be gained from this cost.
Ask those who have gone before you.
I bet they will tell you the cost of NOT doing what they have done is MUCH greater than the cost of what they have achieved.
Don’t take my word for it.
There are plenty of people you can ask at the dojo.
Everyday. -john g
